Hugh Mundell (1962–1983) was a Jamaican reggae performer. Hugh Mundell (1962-1983) era um jamaicano de reggae performer.

Hugh was introduced to reggae by his family's neighbor, reggae performer and producer Boris Gardiner . Hugh foi introduzido ao reggae pela família do seu vizinho, intérprete do reggae e produtor Boris  Gardiner . With Gardiner's assistance Hugh recorded his first single "Where Is Natty Dread?" Com a ajuda de Gardiner Hugh gravou seu primeiro single, "Where Is Natty Dread?" with producer Joe Gibbs at the age of 13. com o produtor Joe Gibbs , com a idade de 13 anos.

A teenage prodigy, he recorded "Africa Must Be Free By 1983" at the age of 16. Um adolescente prodígio, gravou "África Must Be Free Em 1983" na idade de 16 anos. The album received five stars from Rolling Stone magazine.  Although produced by Augustus Pablo , Mundell wrote all the tunes, thereby earning himself the nickname of "The Blessed Youth". O álbum recebeu cinco estrelas da Rolling Stone Magazine. Apesar de produzida por Augustus Pablo , Mundell escreveu todas as músicas, assim, conquistando o apelido de "A Juventude Santíssima".

Mundell recorded several 12" singles under the alias Jah Levi .  Mundell gravou vários 12 "singles sob o pseudônimo de Jah Levi. 

What seemed likely to be a brilliant career was cut short when Mundell was shot to death while driving with Junior Reid in Kingston, Jamaica in 1983.  Many accounts of the incident exist which are all speculative; some reporting that the cause was an argument over a fridge, others that it was in revenge for a burglary, others still that it was over a woman. O que parecia ser uma brilhante carreira foi interrompida quando Mundell foi assassinado a tiros enquanto dirigia com Junior Reid , em Kingston, Jamaica, em 1983.  Muitos relatos do incidente que existem todas as especulativas, alguns relatando que a causa foi uma discussão sobre um refrigerador, outros que foi por vingança por um assalto, outros ainda que era mais uma mulher.

At the time of his death Hugh Mundell had produced 5 LPs and numerous singles.  Na época de sua morte Hugh Mundell tinha produzido cinco LPs e inúmeros singles.
